Dmitry Patrushev
Deputy Chairman of the Government
Background
Dmitry Nikolayevich Patrushev is a Russian banker and politician who has served as Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia since May 2024, with responsibility for agriculture. In this role, he is involved in federal oversight of agricultural policy, including support measures for farmers, access to machinery, and state-backed financing and leasing programs. He remains an important figure in Russian economic administration because agriculture is a major sector of the national economy and a continuing area of government support.
Born on 13 October 1977, Patrushev built his career in banking before entering the federal government. At age 32, he was appointed chairman of the Russian Agricultural Bank, which was then the fourth-largest bank in Russia. He later became Minister of Agriculture of Russia in 2018 and held that post until 2024, before being promoted to deputy prime minister for agriculture in May 2024. He is also the son of Nikolai Patrushev, the former FSB director and former secretary of the Russian Security Council.
Patrushev has been associated with the state’s long-term effort to support domestic agriculture through credit, subsidies, and industrial development. As minister and later deputy prime minister, he was linked to policy on farm support, agricultural machinery supply, and efforts to expand domestic production of equipment, including plans for autopiloted machinery. His career places him at the intersection of banking, agricultural policy, and the federal executive, making him part of the broader network of officials shaping Russia’s economic and administrative policy.
