Background

Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin serves as Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, a position he has held since 2020. As head of government, he leads the federal cabinet and oversees the work of the executive branch under the president. His role places him at the center of Russia’s domestic administration, including economic management, regulatory policy, and coordination among ministries and federal agencies.

Born on 3 March 1966, Mishustin is a Russian politician and economist. Before becoming prime minister, he was director of the Federal Taxation Service from 2010 to 2020, where he built his reputation in public administration and state finance. President Vladimir Putin nominated him for the premiership on 15 January 2020 after the resignation of Dmitry Medvedev and the rest of the government. He was heard by the State Duma on 16 January 2020 and confirmed in office the same day.

Mishustin has been associated with state modernization and administrative regulation, especially through his long tenure in tax administration and his work as head of government. He holds the federal state civilian service rank of 1st class Active State Councillor of the Russian Federation. In office, he has remained involved in economic and institutional policy, including recent instructions on regulating Russia’s platform economy and meetings with financial and business officials. These activities reflect his place as one of the principal figures in Russia’s governing and economic apparatus.
