Krasnoyarsk Krai
Background
Krasnoyarsk Krai is a federal subject of Russia in Siberia, with its administrative center in the city of Krasnoyarsk. It is one of the largest administrative divisions in the country and the largest krai in Russia by area, covering 2,366,797 square kilometers and accounting for roughly 13 percent of Russia’s total territory. The krai also makes up about half of the Siberian Federal District and had a population of 2,856,971 at the 2021 census.
Because of its size and location, the krai has importance in Russia’s regional administration and long-distance territorial management. Krasnoyarsk, its administrative center, is the second-largest city in Siberia after Novosibirsk, making it a major urban and logistical hub for the surrounding territory. The region’s scale gives it significance in federal planning, resource administration, transport, and the coordination of state services across a vast area.
In contemporary public affairs, Krasnoyarsk Krai appears in connection with federal and regional policy initiatives, including financial literacy programming and regional forums. It was identified in recent reporting as the location of the first-ever financial literacy thematic session called “FinZhOZh,” and it is also home to the annual Biryusa forum. These references reflect its role as an active venue for regional policy, civic, and educational events within Siberia.
