Press Release: On the Meeting Between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Ryabkov and the Nominated President of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Do Hung Viet

PRESS RELEASE

On 11 March, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov met with Do Hung Viet, the nominated President of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) [the principal international treaty governing nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy] and Permanent Representative of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the United Nations. Do Hung Viet had traveled to Russia to participate in the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference [an annual expert forum on arms control and nonproliferation hosted by the Center for Energy and Security Studies in Moscow] (13–14 March).

A substantive exchange of views was held on arms control, disarmament, and nonproliferation issues, including the situation surrounding Iran's nuclear program, in light of the upcoming NPT Review Conference (New York, 27 April – 22 May).
