On 11 March, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi.
During the call, the two ministers conducted a substantive exchange of views on the situation surrounding Iran, with a focus on finding ways to bring about the earliest possible end to the armed confrontation triggered by unprovoked aggression on the part of the United States and Israel. Both sides reaffirmed their position in favor of preventing further escalation and returning immediately to a political and diplomatic settlement. Particular emphasis was placed on the inadmissibility of drawing third countries into the conflict — above all the states of the Persian Gulf — given the risks this would carry of expanding the geographic scope of active hostilities.
Lavrov noted Russia's readiness to facilitate the search for compromise peaceful solutions on the basis of respect for the principle of sovereignty and the equality of all states, as well as other fundamental norms of international law.
